1. What information do we collect?
Information You Share with Us
When you create an account and use IngrediPal, you'll share some personal information with us. This typically happens, for example, when you sign up for IngrediPal, reach out to learn more about our app or services, use features and participate in activities within the app, or contact us for support or other questions.
The specific information you provide will depend on how you interact with us and IngrediPal, the choices you make, and the features you use. The main types of personal information you might share include:
- Name and Contact Details. This includes information like your first and last name and email address. If needed for specific services (like billing for a subscription or support), you might also provide a phone number or postal address.
- Your Account Credentials. To keep your IngrediPal account secure, this involves your chosen password, any password hints, or similar security information used for logging in. We treat this information with high security.
- Payment Information for Subscriptions. If you subscribe to IngrediPal, your payments are processed by the platform store you used, such as the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. These platforms collect and manage your payment information directly. IngrediPal does not see, collect, or store your full payment details like credit card numbers. For details on how your payment information is handled, please review the privacy policy of the platform you used for your purchase.
- Social Media Login Information. You may have the option to register or log in using an existing social media account (like Google, Facebook, etc.). If you choose this convenient method, we will receive certain profile information from that social media service to help create your account.
- Shopping List Details. We collect information related to your shopping lists within IngrediPal, such as the items you add and those you mark as purchased or complete.
- Grocery Purchase History. IngrediPal helps you create a history of your grocery items. This history is based on information from your scanned receipts and items you manually add to your digital pantry.
- Meal Plan Information. We collect the details of your plans. This includes the recipes you assign to specific dates or meals in your plan and any notes you add. We also collect information about your meal planning patterns, such as the frequency of your planning or the types of recipes you commonly include.
Information Gathered Automatically
When you use or navigate IngrediPal, we automatically gather some information. This information doesn't directly reveal who you are (like your name or contact details) but includes technical details about your device and how you use our Services. For example, we may note your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, language settings, device name, general location (like your country, based on your IP address), and information about your interactions with IngrediPal (such as features used and timestamps). This helps us keep our Services secure, running smoothly, and allows us to improve IngrediPal through internal analytics and reporting.
The types of information automatically gathered include:
- Usage and Log Information. To help us diagnose issues and improve IngrediPal, our servers automatically log service-related information when you use the App. This can include your IP address, device details, browser type, and information about your activity in the Services (such as the date/time of your use, features you engaged with, and searches performed), as well as device event information like system activity or error reports (sometimes called "crash dumps").
- Device Information. We gather information about the device you use to access IngrediPal, such as your phone, tablet, or computer. This may include your IP address (or proxy server), device and application identification numbers, general location (derived from your IP address), browser type, hardware model, Internet service provider or mobile carrier, operating system, and system configuration information.
2. How We Process Your Information
We process your information for specific purposes, all aimed at providing you with the IngrediPal service and improving your experience. Depending on how you use IngrediPal, these purposes include:

- User Support: To respond to your questions, provide support, and help resolve any issues you might encounter with IngrediPal.
- Administrative Communications: To send you important information about IngrediPal, such as updates to our services, changes to our terms and policies, or other essential notifications related to your account or subscription.

This helps us analyze our app's performance, improve its features, and enhance your overall experience.

3. What legal bases do we rely on to process your information?
If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:
- Consent. We may process your information if you have given us permission (i.e., consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Performance of a Contract. We may process your personal information when we believe it is necessary to fulfill our contractual obligations to you, including providing our Services (like access to IngrediPal features based on your subscription) or at your request prior to entering into a contract with you.
- Legitimate Interests. We may process your information when we believe it is reasonably necessary to achieve our legitimate business interests and those interests do not outweigh your interests and fundamental rights and freedoms. For example, we may process your personal information for some of the purposes described in order to:
- Analyze how our Services are used so we can improve them to engage and retain users.
- Diagnose problems and/or prevent fraudulent activities to maintain the security and integrity of IngrediPal.
- Understand how our users use IngrediPal's features and services so we can enhance the user experience.
- Legal Obligations. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary for compliance with our legal obligations, such as to cooperate with a law enforcement body or regulatory agency, exercise or defend our legal rights, or disclose your information as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.
- Vital Interests. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of a third party, such as situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person.
If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you.
We may process your information if you have given us specific permission (i.e., express consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose, or in situations where your permission can be reasonably inferred (i.e., implied consent).
In some exceptional cases, we may be legally permitted under applicable law to process your information without your consent, including, for example:
- If collection is clearly in the interests of an individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way.
- For investigations and fraud detection and prevention.
- For business transactions provided certain conditions are met.
- If it is contained in a witness statement and the collection is necessary to assess, process, or settle an insurance claim.
- If we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be victim of financial abuse.
- If it is reasonable to expect collection and use with consent would compromise the availability or the accuracy of the information and the collection is reasonable for purposes related to investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of the laws of Canada or a province.
- If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records.
- If it was produced by an individual in the course of their employment, business, or profession and the collection is consistent with the purposes for which the information was produced.
- If the collection is solely for journalistic, artistic, or literary purposes.
- If the information is publicly available and is specified by the regulations.
5. How We Use Artificial Intelligence (AI)
To enhance your experience with IngrediPal and provide innovative features, we may use technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML). Our aim is to use these technologies responsibly to make IngrediPal more helpful and intuitive for you.
How AI Is Used in IngrediPal
- Process Your Scanned Receipts: To automatically identify and extract information like grocery items, prices, and store details from the receipt images you choose to upload. This helps quickly populate your digital pantry and purchase history.
- Analyze and Process Recipes: To understand the content of recipes you add or save within IngrediPal (such as ingredients, cooking instructions, potential nutritional information), which can help you categorize them, make them easier to use in meal plans, or enable other smart cooking-related features.
- Understand Usage Patterns: To analyze trends in your meal planning or pantry management (often using anonymized or aggregated data). This helps us improve IngrediPal, develop new features, and could allow us to offer you more relevant suggestions or insights within the app in the future.
AI Technologies and Your Data
To enable some of these advanced features, IngrediPal partners with leading AI service providers, including Google (utilizing technologies like Gemini models) and Microsoft (utilizing Azure AI services). When your data (such as receipt images or recipe text) needs to be processed by these providers to perform an AI-driven function you've initiated, it is shared with them solely for that purpose.
We have agreements with these providers that require them to handle your information under strict confidentiality and data protection obligations. They are only permitted to use your information to provide the specific AI service to IngrediPal on our behalf and not for their own independent purposes or to train their general AI models in a way that would compromise your personal data.
We are committed to handling any personal information processed by AI features in line with this Privacy Policy, with a strong focus on security and respect for your privacy. The use of AI-powered features is generally tied to specific actions you take within IngrediPal, such as using the receipt scanner or saving a recipe for analysis.
6. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your personal information only for as long as it is necessary to provide you with IngrediPal's services, fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, and comply with our legal obligations (such as for tax, accounting, or other legal requirements).
Generally, most of your personal information, including your account details, pantry items, recipes, and meal plans, will be retained for as long as your IngrediPal account remains active. If you choose to close your account, we will take steps to delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, in accordance with applicable law.
However, please note that some information may need to be retained for a longer period if required for specific legal reasons, to ensure the security of our platform, to resolve disputes, to enforce our agreements, or for the functioning of our backup and archival systems. When we no longer have an ongoing legitimate business need or legal reason to process your personal information, we will either delete it or render it anonymous. If complete deletion or anonymization is not immediately possible (for example, because your information is stored in backup archives which are periodically overwritten), we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further active processing until deletion can be performed.
7. Keeping Your Information Safe
We are committed to protecting your personal information. To do this, IngrediPal implements appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to safeguard the personal information we process. We regularly review and update our security practices to protect your data.
However, please remember that no method of electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. While we diligently work to secure our systems and strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot promise or guarantee absolute security. There is always a risk that unauthorized third parties may attempt to defeat our security measures to access, steal, or modify your information.
Therefore, any transmission of personal information to and from IngrediPal is done at your own risk. We encourage you to help us protect your information by accessing our Services only within a secure environment, keeping your account credentials confidential, and being mindful of the information you share.
8. What Are Your Privacy Rights?
We believe you should have control over your personal information, no matter where you live. Depending on your region, you may have certain rights regarding the personal information IngrediPal holds about you. We are committed to upholding these rights.
Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). These rights may include:
- The Right to Know: You can request to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and whether we "sell" or "share" it (as defined by CCPA/CPRA). This includes the categories of personal information, sources of collection, purposes for processing, and categories of third parties with whom we disclose information.
- The Right to Delete: You can request the deletion of your personal information that we have collected, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- The Right to Correct: You can request that we correct inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you.
- The Right to Limit Use and Disclosure of Sensitive Personal Information (SPI): You may have the right to direct us to limit our use of your SPI to that which is necessary to perform the services or provide the goods reasonably expected. We will clearly identify any SPI we collect (such as your account credentials handled by our authentication provider) and explain how you can exercise this right if applicable.
- The Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights.
To learn more about these rights or to make a request, please see the "How Can You Exercise Your Rights?" and "How Can You Contact Us About This Policy?" sections below.

- The right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you. If IngrediPal were to make such decisions, we would inform you, explain the logic involved, and provide an opportunity for human review.
To make such a request, please use the contact details provided in the "How Can You Contact Us About This Policy?" section. We will consider and act upon any request in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
Withdrawing Your Consent
Where IngrediPal relies on your consent to process your personal information (for example, for specific sharing preferences you set for your recipes or other user-generated content), you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing your consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing we conducted before your withdrawal, nor will it affect the processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on other lawful processing grounds (like fulfilling our contract with you to provide core IngrediPal services).
You can typically withdraw your consent by:
- Adjusting the relevant settings directly within your IngrediPal account (e.g., for sharing preferences for your recipes).

Upon your request to terminate your account, we will deactivate or delete your account and associated personal information from our active databases in a timely manner, in line with our data retention practices (see Section 6, "How Long We Keep Your Information"). However, we may need to retain some information for a limited period for purposes such as preventing fraud, troubleshooting problems, assisting with investigations, enforcing our legal terms, or complying with applicable legal requirements.
If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, or if you wish to make a request, please email us at solodevapps@gmail.com or use the contact methods detailed in the "How Can You Contact Us About This Policy?" section.
9. California "Shine the Light" Law
California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the "Shine the Light" law, permits our users who are California residents to request and obtain from us, once a year and free of charge, information about categories of personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes and the names and addresses of all third parties with which we shared personal information in the immediately preceding calendar year.
Currently, IngrediPal's policy is that we do not share your personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. Because we do not engage in this practice, we would have no such information to disclose to you under this law.
If our practices were to change in the future, we would update this Privacy Policy accordingly. Should you have questions regarding this, please contact us using the details provided in the section.
